UK Research Park showcases STEM companies and commercialises innovation
The Surrey Research Park is a major centre of excellence in technology, science and engineering, and is widely regarded as the best of its kind in the UK. Dr. Malcolm Parry OBE, the Park’s Director needed a technology PR agency with expertise in raising the profile and awareness of STEM companies to help commercialise innovation.

The Challenge
The company’s endeavours provide new products and services that can be used to solve some of life's most pressing problems, as well as making incremental improvements to the quality of life for consumers and business effectiveness.
Dr. Parry outlined specific objectives for brookscomm to achieve:
- Raise international and national awareness via the media about the innovative work being undertaken at the Surrey Research Park
- Raise the business profile of current STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) tenants to help attract new prospective occupants to the Park
- Educate and inform the innovation and investment business community about the Park and the benefits of being a tenant at the Guildford-based Park
The Solution
The brookscomm team developed a media relations strategy targeting the key stakeholders of the Surrey Research Park. This strategy included a reputation management campaign to raise the profile of the Park with a wider relevant audience, ensure that stakeholders were aware of successes on the Park, and inform all audiences of any new developments. As part of this, brookscomm implemented a thought leadership campaign to highlight Dr Parry’s expertise in entrepreneurship, business support and science park development.
High quality coverage secured showcased the Park’s specialist knowledge and experience of supporting gaming, space, health tech and sustainability focused companies, which it has grown to be internationally known for. The brookscomm team also project managed and delivered the Research Park News magazine to demonstrate the work at the Park and the scientific and technological innovation accomplished by Park tenant companies.
The Results
brookscomm delivered a successful ongoing media campaign which highlighted developments of the Park achieving regular media coverage in target publications, and often in combination with key stakeholders such as the University of Surrey and the UK Science Park Association (UKSPA). The expertise of the Park’s key business leaders was featured in titles such as The Telegraph, Cancer Research, Electronics Weekly, GrowthBusiness.co.uk and BBC radio.
The Surrey Research Park News magazine, compiled by brooksomm once a quarter, was shared with over 2000 key global influencers in government, business and technology. The magazine featured news and the latest innovations from member companies as well as updates from the University of Surrey and business incubator SETsquared Surrey.
